The Panel assesses the risk that various pathogens in food (bacteria, viruses, fungi, and prions) may pose to public health.
This group of specialists evaluates the risk of pathogens we can ingest from food. These pathogens can cause disease in humans and include bacteria, viruses, fungi, and prions. They can contaminate food or be removed from food at various stages of food production.

Independent and transparent
The Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) carries out independent risk assessments for the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) and the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet).
