Main message:
EFSA has requested comments regarding an assessment of Dietary reference values (DRV) for carbohydrates, fibre and fats.
The Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety (VKM), Panel on nutrition, dietetic products, novel food and allergy, has worked on a comment and recommends that DRV (dietary reference value) for added sugar is limited to a maximum of 10 % of total energy intake.
Otherwise, if EFSA do not wish to give numeric DRV for added sugar, the VKM Panel strongly recommends that EFSA conclude that the intake of added sugar should be as low as possible within the context of a balanced diet and optimal nutrition.
