Members named for new Scientific Committee
The Ministry of Health and Care Services has appointed 102 experts from 28 scientific institutions in Norway and the other Scandinavian countries as members of the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) for the period 2018–2022.
Director General of VKM, Lars E. Hanssen, said: “We are very pleased with the new committee. This is an excellent committee with high professional competence and broad scientific experience.
The new committee will begin its four-year mandate on 1 September 2018.
In total, 190 professionals from Norwegian and Scandinavian scientific institutions applied to become VKM panel members.
A Scandinavian Assessment Committee evaluated the candidates' scientific competence within the VKM disciplines, as well as their experience with risk assessment, with professional and/or interdisciplinary work in committees or working groups, and management experience.
138 applicants met the scientific qualifications.
The Assessment Committee has emphasized that:
- VKM's scientific areas, including knowledge of Norwegian and Nordic conditions, are covered
- The members come from different environments, from different parts of the country and from other Scandinavian countries
- Each gender is represented by at least 40 percent
- The appointment contributes to the building of Norwegian scientific competence within the areas VKM covers
The committee is appointed by the Ministry of Health and Care Services, after consultations with the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, as well as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
