I 2018 the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) chose a new commitee composed of highly qualified researchers covering a wider range of fields than ever before. This is a promising development to provide a solid foundation for politicians' decisions and for the management and care of food safety, food production and the environment.
Retiring director Lars E. Hanssen wrote these words in VKM's Annual Report 2018. In 2018 VKM published 28 risk assessments or other scientific assessments. Work done for and with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Norwegian Environment Agency has resulted in assessments having a large impact on food safety, food production and the environment.
Looking forward, central goals of VKM's work will be on work that contributes to greater health for people, animals and plants, increased animal welfare, and towards preserving biological diversity. VKM has delivered high-quality risk assessments for 15 years and looks forward to more cross-sectoral work in the future.
