The catching and export of 20 wild caught White-tailed Sea-eagle nestlings from Norway to Ireland, is not going to be detrimental to the survival of the species in the wild.
This is the conclusion of a recent Non-detriment finding (NDF) prepared by VKM.
Catching and exporting Norwegian nestlings is part of a program aiming to reintroduce the White-tailed Sea-eagle to Ireland.
VKM has assessed population size, conservation- and habitat status and biological characteristics, against the level of international trade, threats and management strategies.
The assessment is based on published data and the reintroduction program status reports.
VKM conducted the assessment on behalf of the Norwegian Environment Agency (NEA). The NEA is the national management authority for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora, CITES, in Norway.
VKM is preparing NDFs in line with methodology published by CITES and the IUCN.
