Main message:

The VKM panel on genetically modified organisms has, at the request of the Directorate for Nature Management and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, carried out a risk assessment of the insect and herbicide tolerant maize hybrid 59122 concerning potential effects on health and environment. The assessment is made in connection with an application for approval of the maize for import, industrial processing and use in food and feed in Norway. The panel has not assessed possible environmental aspects of growing the maize hybrid.
