Assessment of health risks from the use of frozen eggs of Sitotroga cerealella as feed in the products CHRYSObio and CHRYSOcontrol
Commissioned: 23.09.2024
Publishing: 20.06.2025
Key message:
The Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) will assess the human health risk from using frozen eggs of Sitotroga cerealella as feed for larvae of Chrysoperla carnea in the products CHRYSObio and CHRYSOcontrol.
The assessment is being carried out for the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
Background and description of the assessment
Frozen eggs of Sitotroga cerealella are part of the products CHRYSObio and CHRYSOcontrol. The eggs are meant to be used as food source to larvae of Chrysoperla carnea, the biocontrol agent in the products. Chrysoperla carnea has been assessed by VKM. Sitotroga cerealella has not been assessed.
Assignment
Since the products contain eggs that have been frozen, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority orders a simplified risk assessment of risk to human health from using the plant protection products CHRYSObio and CHRYSOcontrol.
