Pest risk assessment of the Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus in Norway

Commissioned:

Report no: 2008: 07

Published: 12.02.2008

Main message:

In 2007, after many years of absence, Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) reoccurred in Norwegian cucumber production. The Norwegian Authority for Food Safety is considering whether or not to regulate CGMMV as a quarantine pest. On this basis the Authority requested a PRA on CGMMV in Norway.

To answer the request, VKM commissioned a draft PRA report from Bioforsk Plant Health and Plant Protection Division. VKMs Panel on Plant Health has used the report as a basis for their opinion.

Both recent and previous presences of CGMMV in Norway indicate that the pest is able to establish itself in Norway. Successful establishment of CGMMV has only been recorded in greenhouses in Norway.

The probability for establishment and damage in field production is regarded as low. These are among the conclusions in the risk assessment.

The VKM Panel on Plant Health has been responsible for the risk assessment.
